How to Cook Steak on a Stovetop

Let’s start with this recipe by making the mashed potatoes. Boil your potato halves in a quart of water for 15 minutes. Do note that you have to add a teaspoon of salt into the water beforehand! Drain the water using a colander once finished, then, meanwhile, add some butter into the still hot cooking pot. Put the potato back in the pot and mash, using a potato masher or a fork. Half a cup of creamy evaporated milk goes in next; continue mashing your potatoes until they smoothen. After seasoning with salt and pepper, you can now set it aside.

The next step would be to make the gravy. Melt butter in a saucepan and add Knorr Beef Cube for that extra flavor. Stir, then add all-purpose flour, and for about 5 to 7 minutes, stir some more. Add between ¾ to 1 cup of water into the saucepan, and continue to stir until you’ve blended all your ingredients together well. Feel free, however, to add as much water as necessary to make the consistency as thin or thick as you like! Season with salt and ground black pepper before setting it aside.

Now, it’s time to cook the actual steak! Heat a cast iron pan, then add cooking oil and butter. Once you’ve melted your butter, put the steak you prepared prior into the pan, and sear for about 2 minutes. Note: add more water as needed to make the consistency thinner per your preference.
  • Start cooking the steak by heating a cast iron pan. Add cooking oil and butter. Once the butter melts, put the steak into the pan. Sear it for 2 minutes. Add the rosemary and thyme directly to the oil so that it will be infused with the aroma and flavor of the herbs. Continue cooking for 2 minutes. Remove the herbs and discard. Turn the steak over and continue cooking in high heat for 4 minutes.
  • Take the steak off the pan and place it on a clean plate. Let it rest for at least 5 minutes.
